When it comes to Americans, we do love our Halloween candy. However, there is one candy in particular that remains to be number one: peanut butter cups. According to those at Monmouth University, a recent poll showed that over 36% of Americans say that Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups are number one on their list of Halloween candy. 18% of Americans chose Snickers as their candy of choice during this time of the year.
M&M’s came in third place with 11%. It was a tie between Hershy bars and candy corn, both coming in fourth place at 6%. Now, Patrick Murray, the Polling Institute director at Monmouth University as that though most Americans despise candy corn, there is a fan base for the Halloween treat.
Peanut Butter Cups Come In First Place When It Comes To America’s Favorite Candy
Below is the full list of American’s favorite candy, according to Monmouth University’s poll:
Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups – 36%
Snickers – 18%
M&M’s – 11%
Hershey bars – 6%
Candy corn – 6%
Skittles – 5%
Starburst – 4%
Tootsie Pops – 2%
Those conducting the poll did so via telephone. They were able to call 1,161 adults living in the US to ask them their favorite candy during this time of year. The main focus of the poll was the eighth top-selling type of candy. Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups have been a personal favorite of mine for years, so I can see how it was number one!
The poll was also able to find that 8% of American says that Halloween is their favorite holiday of the year. However, 37% say that it is among their top holidays, and 53% say that Halloween is not their favorite.
In a statement, Murray was saying that it’s split decision when it comes to Halloween. Almost have of the county ranks it as one of their top holidays while the other half could care less about the spooky day.
