Oat Milk The Next Big Thing At Starbucks

There is a new trend coming to your local coffee shops, and it’s oat milk. Starbucks will begin offering new dairy-free substitutes this week. They will start selling the fresh milk at five locations.

Oat milk’s texture is very similar to cows milk. Other substitutes such as soy and almond tend not to have the same texture consistency. To make the milk, they soak the oats in water, and then they blend the mixture and strain it.

The reason for the new substitutes come from the changes in Americans’ ever-changing appetites. At one point, they were serving quinoa milk. However, people didn’t like the taste. However, items such as almond milk and soy milk have been keeping the customers happy. Non-dairy milk sales were able to grow 61 percent bringing 2.1 million between 2012 and 2017 according to a report from Mintel.
