After the bursting of a dam in Brazil on Friday, around 200 people are missing. Waste sludge has engulfed not only the company’s offices but cars and homes in the area as well.
Though several people have injuries, there hasn’t been a recording of any deaths. This information comes from firefighters in the area that are working to rescue victims who love in Brumadinho in Minas Gerais state.
It was only four years ago that a dam previously owned by the same company Vale and BHP group burst. Nineteen people were killed, and hundreds were left homeless during the 2015 disaster. The incident was one of the country’s worst environmental disasters.

According to Vale, they would be able to give more detail on the incident during a 4 p.m ET press conference. Fabio Schvartsman, the CEO of Vale said made a short video on the event. He said that he was not able to describe to the suffering, sadness, or disappointment he had for the situation. Schvartsman says that there was an immense effort made to shore up their dams since the 2015 disaster.
There has been a crisis cabinet established according to a spokesman for Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro. On Saturday, Mr. Bolsonaro will travel to the area of the accident.
Different media outlets in Brazil were posting pictures of the damage due to the dam bursting. Firefighters and other rescue units were able to pull people out of muddy waters. They are currently receiving treatment at Belo Horizonte.
In their statement, Vale said that due to the burst, spillage from the dam was able to reach the administrative area. Also, Parts of Vila Ferteco is under mud. Unfortunately, the means that among those missing include possible employees.
