Taraji P. Henson is making headlines this week, and it’s not for a television show or a new movie. She’s wanting to clarify her stance and opinion when it comes to R&B swooner R. Kelly. She was comparing boycotts of his music with producer Harvey Weinstein.
In her Instagram Story, which is no longer on her page, she had a lot to say about the two. She spoke on how more people were promoting the #MuteRKelly hashtag more so than #MuteHarveyWeinstein and #MuteWeinstein. The R. Kelly hashtag has been trending on social media after the recent premiere of the Lifetime docu-series Surviving R. Kelly. The series focuses on a woman who was allegedly sexually, mentally, and physically abused by R. Kelly. However, Kelly continues to deny that there was any misconduct between him and the women.
Taraji P. Henson Receives Backlash Over R. Kelly Comments
After the backlash, Taraji was quick to tweet about the incident. She goes on to say ” Let me be clear, R. Kelly is guilty and wrong. Also, that he should be muted period.”
Many users were pointing out how using the word “mute” for Kelly made sense because it’s about his music. Also, that people can physically mute Kelly’s music, It would not make sense for Weinstein. Weinstein is also facing charges for a sex crime.
Weinstein will see his day in court the coming May. He is accused of assaulting two women. However, for all five charges, he has pleaded not guilty. If there is a conviction, he faces maximum prison.
Over 70 women have come out to accuse the producer of sexual assault and harassment. He was once one of the most famous producers in Hollywood. Weinstein was a staple figure when it came to the #MeToo movement and the Times Up initiative.
