Cathay Pacific Sells Tickets Too Cheaply

Luck comes for everyone at some point in their life. For some, it may be finding an extra twenty dollars in their jeans that they forgot about. For others, it may be getting the best spot outside of their favorite shopping center. Well, a few people are definitely feeling the luck, and it isn’t even March yet. Cathay Pacific made the mistake of a lifetime. They accidentally sold their business and first class ticket from Vietnam to New York for a mere $675. The standard price for the tickets is actually around $16,000.

The airline, whose home base is in Hong Kong, said in a report that they accidentally sold the business-class seats on August flights way less than half their usual price. However, the company says that they will honor their mistake. Though tickets were selling for around $675, prices for the same route during July and September can easily cost upwards to twenty-three times that amount.

On their Twitter account, they spoke on the incident saying, ” Happy 2019 all, and to those who bought our good – VERY good surprise ‘special’ on New Year’s Day, yes – we made a mistake, but we look forward to welcoming you on board with your ticket issued. Hope this will make your 2019 ‘special’ too!”

Gary Leff, who does a travel blog on Boarding Area was the first to speak on the incident publicly. He wrote about how amazing the fare was. However, he did warn travelers to wait a few days to make any addition non-refundable plans.

He says on his blog that the airline refusing to honor the sale would have to reimburse any extra out of pocket costs. Eleven people were able to snag 18 first-class tickets and eight business-class tickets.
