25-year-old Cardi B has been all over the headlines lately. This past Friday the feisty rapper dropped her first album, Invasion of Privacy. However, many people wonder who Cardi B actually is. She’s the headline musical guest for Saturday Night live Apr. 7. and had a recurring role on a tv show for some time. Below are a few facts that many may not know about the young lady.
1.) Cardi B real name is Belcalis Alamanzar, and though fluent in English, her first language is Spanish. Her mother is Afro-Trinidadian, and her father is Dominican. She gets her thick accent from being around her grandmother, though she was raised on the Southside of the Bronx. In interviews, she speaks about how she does not speak English very well but can understand it.
2.) At one point, she was a stripper. At the age of 19, Cardi began stripping after losing her job at a local supermarket. The reason she says she became a striper was to become more self-sufficient. Also, she was in trying to remove herself from a controlling relationship.

3.) Shaggy was the first popular artist to put her on a track. The reggae singer famous for the hit “It Wasn’t Me” put the young Cardi on the remix of his song “Boom Boom” back in ’15.
4.) Her names come from alcohol. Her sister’s name is Hennesey, in return, their friends would call her Bacardi. She then chose to change it to Cardi B. In interviews she says that the “B” can stand for however she’s feeling that day. The only people who call her Belcalis are her parents.
5.) Cardi be was on VH1’s Love & Hip Hop: New York for two seasons. During the sixth season, she was a star in her own right. On the show, she was able to share her own struggles making it into the music industry.
