Rodrigo Duterte, who is the president of the Philippines, has made accusations about mayors being apart of the drug trafficking issue in his country. Well, now another mayor is no longer alive due to dying during a raid.
The mayor in question, Reynaldo Parojinog of Ozamiz, passed away during a shoot out at his residence. According to Philippine national news, police began to shoot after his security began to fire at DEA officers on their way to arrest Mayor Parojinog.
During the second raid at a family member’s house, his wife and five other people were saw their demise. His daughter, as well as the deputy of Ozamiz, were under arrest. Police also was able to arrest a few other people with ties to selling drugs.
Mayor Reynaldo Parojinog Dies Over The Weekend During Raid
Police officers said that they found high-powered rifles, tons of cash, and a large amount of meth at the home of Parojinog. During the raids, only one officer was hurt but according to Chief Superintendent Timoteo Pacleb, his injuries are not life threatening. He is looking to make a full recovery.
During President Duterte speech last August, he named over 150 Philippine officials that he believed were a part of the drug problem in his country. He named off judges, police officers and mayors. Mr. Parojinog and his daughter were a part of the group in Duterte’s speech.
As of now, Mr. Parojinog is the third mayor to die during an encounter with police. Last October, Samsudin Dimaukom, was the mayor of a small town in the southern Philippines. The name of the city is Satu Saudi-Ampatuan. Police officers shot him down after believing that his guards were shooting at them. Then in November, Rolando Espinosa, who was a mayor as well, is longer here due to dying in police custody.
