Broadway Presents: Spongebob Squarepants?

Bringing cartoons to Broadway, Bikini Bottom hits the main stage in a few months. Debuting in Chicago in 2016 as The SpongeBob Musical opens at the Palace Theater in December. The show, a first for Nickelodeon, will have songs written by a plethora of famous musicians.

Singers and songwriters such as Sara Bareilles, Panic! At the Disco, T.I., The Flaming Lips, Lady Antebellum, Cyndi Lauper and They Might Be Giants will write the songs. Also, John Legend and Steven Tyler are set to write songs for the musical as well.

The SpongeBob booking pushes back eager remodel plans. However, remodeling the stage will leave the Palace out of commission for a few years. As of now, there are no dates for the remodeling. The hit television show, now musical, will titillate fans of the show from all ages. The second film, The SpongeBob Movie: Sponge Out of Water, was the top-earning film the week it opened.

As yet, getting those group to turn up on Broadway will probably require a vigilant advertising push by makers.
