The former child actress playing Joanie Cunningham on the show “Joanie Loves Chachi” and “Happy Days star ” Erin Moran, age 56, passed away Saturday.
The police department in Harrison County, Indiana says they received a call to 911 that a woman was unresponsive. When first responders arrived, Erin Moran Fleischmann was pronounced dead pending an autopsy. The 911 dispatcher confirms it was the wife of Steven Fleischmann.
Moran was native to Burbank and started acting in movies and TV shows before she reached 10-years-old. In 1974 she began starring as Joanie Cunningham in “Happy Days.” Other members of the cast include Ron Howard, Marion Ross, Tom Bosley, and Henry Winkler.
In 2009, Moran expressed how much the cast felt like a family during an interview.
The long-running sitcom came during a nostalgic time for the “innocent” 50’s. Winkler and Howard were the most famous stars. However, the freckled-face smiling Moran was just as well-known. She was also with Scott Baio, another performer in “Happy Days,” starring in the short-lived show “Joanie Loves Chachi” in 1982. Then in 1984, she returned for the final season of “Happy Days.”
In 1981, Moran told CNN that she wanted to star in a play and do a feature film after “Happy Days.” “Murder, She Wrote” and “The Love Boat” are her most recent credits.
However, rather than her success, she was often in the headlines for her financial and personal issues and was even homeless occasionally.
Moran along with Ross, Donnie Most, and Anson Williams filed a lawsuit against CBS in 2011 over money owed to them for show merchandise. However, they settled the lawsuit a year later. Moran said that she was working on her memoir that she would call “Happy Days, Depressing Nights.”
