Last Week To Apply For Christmas Assistance

This marks the last week to get your applications in for Christmas assistance, and it will be a busy one.

In the first two weeks last year, the Salvation Army took over 865 applications. This year the Salvation Army has already received 1,195. The first week (Nov. 7th-11th) was slightly above average in applications. However, the second week was an incredibly busy working day on Thursday, when they had about 200 applications. Those numbers are well above the previous year’s numbers.

For those who have not applied yet, there’s just one more week to get a little extra help for the Christmas holiday. The assistance will bring smiles to the children in your family, whether you are a grandparent or a parent. Applications will bring food assistance and toys for children up to 16 years old.

At this time, they are accepting applications Monday through Friday from 9:30 to 11:45 a.m. in your area. The final working day is Thursday from 5 to 7 p.m. where full-time students and employees can apply. However, you will need to bring documentation showing why you couldn’t come during the day.

If you require additional information, please feel free to call your local Salvation Army. If you are planning on filling out a Christmas assistance application, know there is help there for all the paperwork, even Spanish translators on site. Volunteers are welcome to come help out.

Christmas Assistance

If you are getting any SSI, disability, Social Security, or welfare, you will need to bring your ID’s, your health card and all birth certificates for the children you are applying for, as well as a bill or recent receipt of rent with your name and current address. All your information about bills, rent, and addresses must be within the last two months.

If multiple families are living in the same household, each family needs to apply separately, and if there is a foster child you please bring the child’s passport.

Also, keep in mind if anyone is 18 or older they have to apply separately and must show proof of income, evidence of address and their photo ID.

Christmas will be here before you know it, so please come in and apply as soon as possible to your local Salvation Army for your Christmas holiday assistance.
