At 27 years old, Stefen Wisniewski has played 77 games throughout his five-year career in the National Football League. The beginning of his NFL journey started with the Oakland Raiders as a left guard. Now, as of April 2016, he has officially signed a one-year contract with the Philadelphia Eagles.
Wisniewski was born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania on March 22nd, 1989. He came from a well-known athletic family. His uncle, Steve Wisniewski, was known as an eight-time pro bowl guard for the Raiders and the first assistant offensive line coach in 2011. His father played football professionally for the Colts as a middle guard.
While the young Stefen Wisniewski was attending college, he was awarding the first Penn State Football student-athlete. From 2008 through 2010, he was named ESPN Academic All-American.
During the NFL draft held in 2011, Wisniewski was the 48th pick in the second round by the Oakland Raiders. He signed on to become part of the team after training camp. With thoughts of legacy in the NFL, he chose to wear proudly his college #61 rather than his uncle’s #76 uniform. Although, the star did play the same left guard as his uncle under coach Hue Jackson.
Opening season in 2011, the Raiders took the victory against the Denver Broncos with 190 rush yards in the game. Within the third week, the rookie was awarding the Pepsi NFL Rookie of the Week after an astounding 234 rushing yards with the offensive line.
An impressive 2012 season as the starting left guard for the Raiders awarded him a spot in the Pro Football Weekly All-Rookie Team.
Later that year, he became the starting center for the Raiders team.
In 2015, Wisniewski played center in 16 games for the Jacksonville Jaguars. He signed a yearly contract with the team in April of 2015. Later, he became a free agent in March of 2016.
April 2016 marks the month that he officially signed a one-year contract with the Philadelphia Eagles. The Eagles realize that this is an excellent small-risk move for them because it gives them a capable starter. Athletes across the nation are making big moves in their career in hopes to make themselves a legacy, Wisniewski is on his way.
